Social listening at TeachDrop

Records gathered before 1 September 2026 were deleted that day after an error during database maintenance and were not recovered, so nothing from before then is held.

Searches run on behalf of individual sellers. Some are typed by the seller; others TeachDrop derives automatically from the titles of the materials they upload, so a search can begin without anyone typing it. That is the usual reason a post is matched.

What TeachDrop Discovery does

TeachDrop helps sellers of teaching resources find public conversations where their materials might be useful. Our systems search public posts on X (Twitter) and Bluesky for a small set of keywords about the TeachersPayTeachers marketplace — things like “new TpT seller” or “how do I promote my TpT store”. We do not collect from Reddit: for Reddit we only link our users to Reddit’s own public search.

What we store, and for how long

For each matching public post: the post’s id and link, the author’s public platform id and handle, when it was posted, and a short internal text excerpt used solely to rank relevance. Everything is deleted after 30 days at the latest. Posts you delete on the platform are removed from our systems within 24 hours of us learning of the deletion, and we check daily. We display X posts using X’s official embeds, so a deleted post disappears immediately from our interface.

What we deliberately do not do

We do not build profiles of people. We do not look up or store follower counts, locations, or histories. We never try to match a social account to an email address, a real name, or any other identity. We do not infer anything sensitive. We never contact anyone automatically — TeachDrop has no ability to post, reply, follow, or message on any platform. Our users see a public post with a link to it, nothing more; if they choose to reply, they do so themselves, on the platform, from their own account.

Why we are allowed to do this

Our lawful basis is legitimate interests (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). The interest is helping small sellers of teaching materials find public conversations where their work is relevant — including from people who have publicly asked for exactly that kind of help. We weighed that interest against your rights in a written assessment before we started, and the limits described on this page — no profiles, no matching you to any other identity, no automated contact, deletion within 30 days — are the conditions that assessment set, not goodwill. You can object at any time using the form below.

Your rights

If you would rather your public posts never appear in TeachDrop at all, use the form below — no account needed. We add your identity to a permanent suppression list checked before anything is stored; existing records about you are deleted immediately. You can also email privacy@teachdrop.org for access, erasure, objection, or any other data-protection request (GDPR, Kenyan DPA 2019, or your local law). You can also complain to a data-protection supervisory authority: in the EU or UK, the authority where you live or work; in Kenya, the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner. Opt out of TeachDrop social listening

Give us the profile you want suppressed — a handle, profile URL, or Bluesky DID. We match on your account’s permanent platform identifier wherever we have it, because that keeps working when a handle changes.

Being exact about the limit, because it is your right at stake: if you give us a Bluesky DID, it is permanent from the moment you submit it. If you give us a handle, we match on the handle until we can look the permanent id up — so if you changed your handle in that window, tell us again, or send the DID. On X we resolve the numeric id when the platform lets us. Either way the entry never expires, and you can email privacy@teachdrop.org to confirm what we hold.
